Birmingham UK page

Introduction

Birmingham is the "second city" in the UK. It is set in the heart of the Midlands. It is mostly an engineering town but is also still known as a gunmaking and jewellery city. The famous jewellery quarter in Hockley still exists, and links to the gunmaking past can be seen in local pub names such as The Gunmakers Arms of which there are at least three. There is a large proportion of ethnic minorities in the city. This includes a large Irish population. There are lots of Irish pubs to be found throughout the city, but especially in Digbeth.
